What to Consider About Teen Rehab

Are you considering sending your child to a substance use or mental health treatment facility? Knowing what to expect can help you make the decision with less apprehension. After having worked in teen rehab for a number of years, I wrote an article which appeared in the daily online news site, the Fix, in hopes of better preparing parents who have come to this crossroads. In April, the Fix posted my article entitled, "What to Expect in Teen Rehab." This is an excerpt:

A good treatment center gives teens a chance to reflect without the same old pressures of everyday life. Parents are able to work through issues in family therapy. Overall, there can be a reprieve from the conflict often inherent in struggling parent-teen relationships. Such a break can create a space for solace and healing. Sometimes, for the young person, simply being removed from the environment where the dysfunction is occurring for a short while helps more than anything else.

I hope that this article helps you to weigh the factors in considering the decision to send your child to rehab. Knowledge helps to quell anxiety. We at Pacific MFT Network want to help you do just that.
