Meet Our New Therapist- DeAnna Tavakoly, Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist
Navigating the different stages of life can be an overwhelming and confusing experience. At any stage of development, we face certain milestones and hurdles that can leave us feeling lost and uncertain about the future. Many times, we come to therapy feeling riddled with self-doubt, anxiety, restlessness and exhaustion all at the same time. Sometimes we find ourselves feeling numb, detached and disconnected from ourselves. We may not have had a stable family system or stable adults around us growing up, which can leave us feeling lost in the world without guidance or a roadmap. The lingering effects of childhood trauma can exacerbate feelings of uncertainty, insecurity and the persistent ache of not belonging. Since we don’t always have a class for learning healthy coping mechanisms in school and healthy emotional regulation is not always modeled in our homes, it’s common to develop unhealthy ways of coping in response to chronic stress. Whether we resort to compulsive behaviors, isolation, substances or getting lost in unhealthy relationships and self-destructive patterns, we are eventually left with the same haunting feelings of emptiness, unease and fear.
My work involves supporting clients in gaining insight into their unique strengths, experiences, behaviors and relational patterns while developing healthier coping mechanisms. I provide a safe and non-judgmental space that allows for clients to reconnect with themselves again so that they can rediscover their authenticity, build a healthier sense of self and foster supportive interpersonal relationships. Through education, skill-building and insight, we will work together as a team to address the root sources of your symptoms (while honoring your own pace) so that you can start to feel alive again and at home in your own skin.
I work with adults navigating life stressors and/or recovering from a history of trauma. I integrate evidence-based practices (primarily Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) with a psychodynamic approach. I have gained experience working with diverse populations in a variety of different settings and have cultivated a holistic lens informed by mindfulness and the connection between the body and mind. I continue to learn and grow as a life-long student of the healing arts. To learn more about my approach to therapy, feel free to schedule a complimentary 15 minute phone consultation. I meet with clients Tuesdays through Fridays during the afternoons and evenings. I’m licensed in the state of California and work with individuals located within CA.
